The Issue

Alcohol and tobacco liveries and ads were popular in motorsport events until they were banned. However alcohol and tobacco liveries are a popular trend in sim racing games today. Sim racing replicates the exhilarating experience of real-life motorsports, providing both entertainment and a sense of community to its participants. However, the presence of alcohol and tobacco brand liveries on virtual cars serves as a form of indirect advertising and glorifies these substances to impressionable sim racers and viewers, many of whom are underage.

Research from the World Health Organization has consistently shown that exposure to tobacco and alcohol advertising increases the likelihood of use among non-users and can exacerbate the habits of current users. By allowing these brands to feature prominently in sim racing, we unwittingly promote products known for their association with serious health issues, including heart disease, cancer, and addiction.

We have the opportunity to protect the mental and physical wellbeing of young impressionable audiences by strongly advocating for a ban on alcohol and tobacco branding in sim racing. By refusing to allow these substances to be glamorized in a virtual space, we can make a significant step in reducing potential harm and supporting healthier lifestyle choices for future generations.

Join me in urging sim racing developers and sponsors to take responsible action. Let us eliminate alcohol and tobacco brand liveries from the sport. Please sign this petition to create a healthier environment for sim racing fans worldwide.
