Ban 70-Hydroxymitragynine in Missouri for public safety
The Issue
Our lives were forever shattered on November 13, 2025, a day no parent should have to endure. It was the day we lost our beloved son, Jeremy. His life was tragically cut short due to a single tablet containing 70-Hydroxymitragynine, an alkaloid found in Kratom. This incident is not isolated. Across the country, many families have suffered similar losses due to this largely unregulated and dangerous substance.
70-Hydroxymitragynine is a potent opioid receptor agonist found in Kratom. While it is used by some for recreational purposes or as a self-treatment for opioid withdrawal, this substance poses serious health risks. Scientific studies have shown that Kratom can cause hallucinations, addiction, and even fatal overdoses. According to the FDA, between 2011 and 2017, Kratom was linked to 44 deaths in the United States. These statistics are alarming and demonstrate a pressing public health concern that requires immediate attention.
In Missouri, we stand at a pivotal moment in addressing the safety of our communities. Although 70-Hydroxymitragynine products have been removed from store shelves, the risk persists as they remain legal and accessible through other channels. We must act now to ensure that no other family endures the heartbreak of losing a loved one due to this substance.
We call upon the Missouri State Legislature to take decisive action by banning 70-Hydroxymitragynine. This ban would not only protect our current residents but also set a precedent for other states to follow, highlighting Missouri's commitment to the health and safety of its citizens.
To those in power: please put the welfare of our community first and enact legislation that forbids the sale, possession, and distribution of 70-Hydroxymitragynine. We urge leaders to also allocate resources for public education campaigns about the dangers of Kratom and to support addiction treatment programs for those already affected.
Let’s honor Jeremy’s memory by making Missouri a safer place for all. Together, we can prevent further tragedies. Your signature on this petition is a step towards protecting our future and saving lives. Please sign to support this vital cause.
