Bahcemize destek SEED INTERNATIONAL'dan mektup: Thank you Morag Sayin Aziz Kocaoğlu, Seneler önce büyük bir zevk ile halk çalışması olan Balçova Ekolojik Komşu Bahçesinin oluşumu​nun birer parçasi olduk. 25 senedir bu tip şehir bahçeleri çalışmalarımızı enternasyonal olarak sürdürüyoruz ve biz de Avustralya’nin ilk komşu bahçesini kuranlarındanız. Ayrıca Avustralya Şehir Komşu Bahçeleri Networkunu da kurduk. Dünya çapinda komşu bahçelerinin sosyal ve psikolojik olarak semt sakinlerine ve şehirlerin bölge değerine ne büyük fayda ve değer kattığı bilinir. Geçtiğimiz 10 sene içerisinde Balçova Komşu Bahçesinin Hikayesini, ve oluşumundaki o zamanki yerel yönetimin gönüllülerle ilişkisini, eğitim seminerlerini ve halkın bunu nasıl başardığını bir örnek olarak dünya çapındaki çalışmalarımızda paylaşıyoruz. Bahçe sakinleri gerçekten güzel bir toplum projesini gerçekleştirmişlerdir. Bu önemli bahçenin bina yapımı karşındaki yıkılma tehlikesinde olduğunu duyduğumuzda çok üzüldüğümüzü belirtmek isteriz. Sizden bu çok önemli, ve değerli olan halk projesini korumanizi acilen rica ediyoruz ki ileriye dönük büyüyebilsin, ve gelecekte de diğer bahce olusumlarina örnek olmaya devam etsin. We’ve been involved with community gardens for about 25 years having started one of the first city farms in Australia and co-founded the Australian City Farms and Community Gardens Network. It is widely recognised how important community gardens are for the social and emotional well-being of local residents and how vital they are for improving the habitat value of urban open spaces. Over the past decade, we have shared the story and pictures of the Balcova community garden in our educational programs and presentations in many parts of the world - as a model of a successful and thriving community garden that met the community needs, and demonstrated how the local government and community worked together so well to create this. So many people have been inspired by what has been achieved there. The gardeners have really created such a beautiful public space. It is with great sadness that we now learn that the garden is under threat of closure because of development pressures. We sincerely urge you to protect this valuable community asset so that it can continue to grow and flourish well into the future.
