An internet video recently went viral showing Carrie Maxwell, a second grade school teacher, belligerently yelling and swearing at a peaceful Black Lives Matter protester. In the video, Maxwell threatens to kill the woman filming her, right in front of the woman’s elementary school-aged child. More videos have since surfaced showing Maxwell making similar outbursts, yelling, swearing, and threatening others.

Maxwell teaches second grade at Bakersfield City School District’s Downtown Elementary School. Teachers are leaders and role models, entrusted with shaping and supporting young minds at a critical stage of emotional and social development. Maxwell’s behavior does not reflect the values we want in our classrooms.

We, the undersigned, demand Bakersfield City School District relieve Carrie Maxwell from her position at Downtown Elementary School and within the school district.
