Getting involved with Reimagine Babylon for the upcoming local election

Hi everyone,

I hope you and yours are healthy and well. I want to thank you again for your contribution to our efforts to replace the divisive Robert Moses statue in Babylon with a symbol that represents our values of equality and justice and that points toward making this a place where everyone belongs, no matter our color or origin.

While our efforts continue, I also wanted to share an exciting related update to the cause of advancing racial equity and justice in Babylon. Our friends at Reimagine Babylon, a community group started this past summer to build a future for all who call this place home, are bringing people together to elect new leaders like Debbie Maya Melito to Babylon Village’s local government. Debbie wants to ensure Babylon can heal past harms and present inequities, deliver the care every family needs, and ensure the Village is a community where all people are included.

In addition to signing petitions and marching, we know that joining together as voters is another critical way we can make the change we need in our community. If you’re a registered voter in Babylon Village, we encourage you to get involved with Reimagine Babylon and their campaign to elect Debbie to Village Trustee on March 16th.

You can follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ReimagineBabylon/ or on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/reimaginebabylon/ Registered voters in Babylon can help make sure Debbie gets on the ballot this election by filling out this quick form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdQw4BpyX1ut6EI-jFxzJoRA_Gp6lnQiHAhHbpfvzcCTPBcjw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Now more than ever, it’s clear we must bring truth and reconciliation to our communities and our country for us to heal and move forward together.

Thank you again for being in this with us.

Best,

Vanessa
