Stop the dolphin slaughter in the Faroe Islands!

Stop the dolphin slaughter in the Faroe Islands!
Das Problem
Year after year, around 1000 whales and dolphins are cruelly slaughtered in the remote Faroe Islands (DK) between Norway and Iceland. This horrible bloodshed is part of the islanders' »cultural identity« and is therefore not only tolerated but supported by their local government.
Since 2015, even a law has been in force according to which any islander who fails to report the sighting of a herd of whales faces up to two years in prison. At the same time, the Faroe Islands Health Authority advises against eating the whale and dolphin meat because of its high concentrations of mercury, dioxins and PCBs!
This senseless killing »out of tradition« must finally be put to an end!
Considering the worldwide rapid extinction of species, this arbitrary and arrogant wiping out of entire whale populations by the islanders is an intolerable crime against nature. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has now presented the Living Planet Report 2020, according to which more than two thirds of the global animal world has been lost since 1970!
According to the Marine Conservation Organization Sea Shepherd, many of the whales killed are dumped into the sea without making any use of their meat. One more proof that the »Grindadráp« – under the pretext of an ancient »cultural heritage« and of »food supply« – is nowadays mainly about the satisfaction of pure bloodlust.
Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen, we call on you to face up to the responsibility we have as a modern global community to protect these highly intelligent and sensitive marine mammals. Put a stop to this heinous massacre!
