In response to an early inquiry at the beginning of June, Mayor Lisa Helps passed the issue over to Chris Coleman, the Council Liaison to Fairfield, who was at that time out of town. However, it was the Mayor's e-mail quote from Jane Jacobs that caught my attention. In her book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, the journalist and urban theorist said, "Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” Obviously our cities are not being created by everyone equally with informed consultation and democratic consensus. Instead, the voice of the people, as well as their concerns and their very health, are being neglected for profit and the interests of corporations. Health Canada's Safety Code 6 permits all of this. This petition is aimed at trying to address this sorry imbalance. Thank you for all your comments and support.
