Call to hold the ASRSD Middle School Principal accountable for racial injustice

Call to hold the ASRSD Middle School Principal accountable for racial injustice
The Issue
On Wednesday, August 26th 2020 it was brought to the attention of some ASRSD Diversity Sub-Committee members that the Middle School Principal posted racially insensitive and tone deaf comments on her Facebook Page. Some of her comments were, "I'm so confused right now. I see signs all over saying black lives matter. I'm just trying to figure out which black lives matter." and "I'm voting for secure boarders." Following her posts over 30 students responded to her by saying things like, "...now I understand why you wouldn't let a black history club happen in school" and "especially bothers me considering we had children from all different backgrounds attending this Middle School." We expect that our school leaders will be empathetic role models who display a capacity to build up and not tear down. We are demanding the Superintendent hold the Middle School principal accountable for her insensitive and racially motivated statements. These behaviors do not align with ASRSD's values.
