Petition update

Victory!

Oct 8, 2018 — It’s a #BloodyVictory! Six years ago, I could never have imagined that nearly 75,000 of you would get behind this petition, calling for an end to the tampon tax. But you did, and you never gave up: just hours before the announcement that the GST would be removed, you were still signing and sharing this petition.

People have been calling for an end to the tampon tax since before the GST was even introduced, and it has taken 18 long years to achieve change. Six years ago, you all leapt onto this petition - more than half of you signed on within the first few years of the campaign.

Then, it was almost impossible to get anyone in power to commit to dealing with this issue, but you still kept signing, sharing, and calling for change. Then, a few months ago the Opposition signalled they would remove the tax if elected: and it was back on! You all kept signing and sharing, and this petition cracked 50,000 signatures!

It’s people power like this that pushed the Government to finally axe the tax! Now, with all states and territories onboard, the ludicrous idea that tampons, pads, menstrual cups, maternity pads and leak-proof underwear are luxury items has been settled once and for all.

Thank you everyone for all your support!
Sophie
