We, the undersigned residents of Amherst, Nova Scotia, are writing to express our deep concern about the escalating crime rate and the inadequate response from the Amherst Police Department.

Despite numerous complaints and allegations of misconduct, including criminal behavior by two officers, the department has failed to address these issues effectively.

The lack of accountability and transparency within the department has eroded public trust and confidence.

We urge you to intervene and take immediate action to address this crisis.

We petition you to:

1. Immediately dissolve the Amherst Police Department due to their inability to effectively address crime and misconduct.

2. Replace the Amherst Police Department with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or a similar law enforcement agency, effective immediately.

3. Conduct a thorough, independent investigation into the allegations of misconduct, including criminal behavior, within the Amherst Police Department.

4. Establish a Civilian Review Board to oversee the investigation and ensure accountability and transparency.

We believe that the safety and well-being of Amherst residents are at risk due to the inaction of the Amherst Police Department.

We urge you to take immediate action to address this crisis and restore public trust.
