Award Level 42 a Camden Walk of Fame plaque
The Issue
Level 42 are British music royalty.
For over four decades, they have defied genres by fusing pop-rock hooks with jazz-funk grooves. This petition calls for the ultimate recognition: a well-deserved stone on the music walk of fame.
Here is why they belong on the Walk: From Macari’s to Music History: Frontman Mark King actually started out as a drummer. After landing a job at the iconic Macari’s musical instrument store in Camden, he had to quickly learn bass guitar—bluffing his way into the gig and changing music history in the process.
The Slap Bass Pioneer: It was that pivot to the bass that birthed his legendary, lightning-fast slap-and-pop technique, turning the instrument into a driving, melodic powerhouse.
A Masterclass in Influence: King’s revolutionary style, honed from those early days figuring out the instrument, has inspired generations of musicians and bedroom bassists worldwide.
Decades of Hits: From underground jazz-funk pioneers to global pop icons, they dominated the 1980s with timeless anthems like Lessons in Love and Something About You.
Enduring Legacy: Forty years later, their sophisticated grooves and high-energy live performances still sell out venues and influence modern funk, pop, and electronic artists.
Sign now to honor Level 42, Mark King, Mike Lindup, Phil Gould, Boon Gould, Wally Badarou with a permanent spot in music history!
We the fans would appreciate the walk of fame selection committee and relevant cultural authorities to grant Level 42 the honor they deserve. Let us ensure that their music and influence continue to inspire and resonate. Sign this petition and help us celebrate Level 42's extraordinary legacy in the world of music! Together, we can bring their contributions the recognition they have long deserved.
