In less than eight months, your calls for change have been heard. Awaab’s Law will become a reality.

The Social Housing (Regulation) Bill, amended in line with this campaign, has passed both the Commons and the Lords. It’s now awaiting Royal Assent, the final stage in the lawmaking process. This couldn’t have happened without you.

Your support, your anger and your pain was so fierce, lawmakers simply couldn’t ignore it. Last month, this petition was delivered to 10 Downing Street by Awaab’s father, Faisal Abdullah.

To everyone who signed it: thank you. Awaab Ishak’s death should never have happened. His family’s cries for help should have been acted upon. A two-year-old boy shouldn’t have died due to mould in 21st century Britain. But thanks to you, Awaab will save lives.

The Manchester Evening News will keep fighting for better housing conditions in Awaab’s memory and will be closely watching the housing sector to ensure the demands of our campaign are being met.
