The trial of Jamie Williams is significant on many levels. Its is a test case as to whether Australia accepts or rejects the legitimacy of the YPG-YPJ and PYD and whether a man is made free or condemned to spend maybe his whole life in prison. It will also potentially determine the legality of Australians serving in other allied and friendly Foreign Forces be they standing national armies or recognized Paramilitaries. The law has never been tested before and to prosecute in this case is politically motivated and not in the public interest. The best thing that they can do is expedite a not guilty verdict or if legally permissible dismiss the charges all together and declare the YPG and Peshmerga exempt under the Act and release Jamie to the community.
