Petition updateCALL FOR CHANGE for ME patients AustraliaThe 3rd year of data from when we made our initial foi enquiry to the NDIA is now available.

What we can discern from the current data is:

  • That there has been a significant increase of applications for access to the NDIS.
  • The NDIS has been rejecting 71% of ME patients applications. (Reasons not given)
  • 160 PWME are recognised and have access to the NDIS.
  • 80 PWME have access to NDIS funding but their ME is not recognised under the scheme.
  •  1 participant recognised for ME/CFS was exited from the scheme but no explanation was given to why.

Our hypothesis is that the increase of applications could be associated with a number of factors such as:
- Our group insisting that the NDIA correctly collect this data,
- An increase of Long COVID patients with ME needing access
- More awareness of the NDIA’s rejection/acceptance criteria which was made public via our foi’s on this page and
- general increased awareness of ME as a disability
The ME - ME/CFS community warned the government that a influx of support would be needed to care for patients journeying with long covid. As yet there are still no plans of support for COVID effected communities apart from “long COVID clinics” Spruiking the disproven and harmful GET/CBT paradigm
