Dear Petitioner, Three weeks ago, the agriculture and tourism sectors wrote to the Australian Government seeking a 19% tax rate for backpackers instead of 32.5%. We worked together in good faith and agreed on a way forward. With the May Budget looming, farmers and tourist destinations around Australia are worried that our voices haven’t been heard. As we wait, fewer backpackers are looking for Australian jobs, and more farmers are wondering whether to put their crops in at all.
