Men's rights activist (MRA) Bettina Arndt has been recognised in this year’s Australia Day honours list for services “to gender equity through advocacy for men.” As part of these alleged services, Arndt interviewed twice-convicted pedophile Nicolaas Bester for her YouTube channel, in a segment she called "Feminists persecute disgraced teacher." Bester had previously described his sex crimes as "awesome." Despite the domestic violence epidemic in Australia, Arndt has also claimed that programs to combat domestic violence unjustly demonise men—despite the fact that men are overwhelmingly perpetrators—and that the deeply misogynistic culture that produces domestic violence can only be found in countries like Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, but not in Australia, the United States and Britain which are "egalitarian" (despite also being allegedly hostile to men). Men's right's activism of the type Arndt practises and the Australian Government rewards is recognised by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as a product of extremist supremacist ideology; it has no place amongst our national awards.
