The Issue

As a nation, Australia awards the Australian Defence Medal as a military decoration which recognises current and former Australian Defence Force personnel who completed an initial enlistment period, or four years' service in the defence of our country; however, there is no real award that recognises the courage and ongoing dedication that our health care workers who currently provide the people of Australia for their service during the Covid-19 crisis.

We would like to change this by asking the Federal Government of Australia to mint a service medal for our Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health Care workers who are currently risking their lives to tackle and defeat the Covid-19 virus.

This award would focus on those who work on the front line of the health service in hospitals and in the community. Understandably, to maintain the integrity of the award, the award would be limited to those who have served for a given defined period on the front line in this area. Covid-19.

Like many, the people of Australia need a way to properly thank these people for risking their lives in the service of humanity and the Australian people.
