"You are all FANTASTIC! The cull is indeed OFF and the pressure that you've applied to the office of David Speirs (SA Environment Minister) will help to ensure that their review process is more stringent in going forward - hopefully.
Something must be said at this stage - PLEASE DO NOT HARASS THE Aboriginal Lands Trust (ALT) as they have done the right thing by submitting an application, unlike too many farmers who don't bother.
The real errors were made by those signing off on the permit.
Today was a day of many conversations with everyone from the Dept involved in authorising the cull to Tammy Franks office, to speaking personally with both Michael Swinbourne (wombat expert) many times, and John Chester from the ALT (for a good 45 minutes).
By speaking with John and actually LISTENING to him, a level of trust was achieved that has allowed for him to be open to speaking directly with Michael, and potentially then getting them together to allow for a proper assessment of the colony in question.
This will only be successful because the two men are respectful of each other.
Please also be respectful and encourage others to do the same.
By bringing these men together to aide the wombats will be a massive win, but the real win will be to ensure that government departments create a proper procedure in the future.
Please keep that in mind.
THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERY POSITIVE AND NON-VIOLENT (threatening) ACTION THAT YOU'VE TAKEN TO HELP THESE WOMBATS
-----
Please note that while we feel that every cull should be suspended at this time, the reality is that each of the State governments have their own policies at this stage.
State by state we will continue to challenge each permit that we become aware of, and hope that you will continue your support by joining us in that non-violent action.
For now the best place to communicate your disappointment in the Yorke Peninsula instance, by asking Minister David Speirs to suspend all permits is via his contact page at https://www.davidspeirs.com.au/contact
