Precourt backs off parkland, now seeks city-owned McKalla Place

Congratulations and thank you! Your voice made a difference! Strong opposition by you and thousands of Austinites throughout the city forced the Austin City Council to back away from considering parkland for a 20,000 seat stadium for a private professional team owned by a private equity firm, Precourt Sports Ventures, LLC. Please be sure to thank Council Members Kitchen, Alter, and Pool and Mayor Pro Tem Tovo for their leadership in protecting parkland from the soccer stadium! Now, Precourt is seeking use of city-owned land at McKalla Place for its stadium. Many Austinites oppose the use of McKalla Place for a stadium because the City has on multiple occasions identified it as a top site for on-site income-restricted housing for low income families. Thousands of low income families have been pushed out of Austin due to escalating housing costs exacerbated by rapid growth. Many Austinites believe that using city-owned land to build income restricted housing for low income families is one of the most effective ways to provide housing affordable to low income families.
