Augmenting Our Cybersecurity Strategy for National Infrastructure

Augmenting Our Cybersecurity Strategy for National Infrastructure
The Issue
As someone deeply concerned about our national security and infrastructure, I believe the continuous threat posed by cyber threat actors poses a grave danger to our country and our cherished way of life. If we don't evolve our approach and take proactive actions swiftly and decisively, the consequences could be far-reaching, affecting not only us but also jeopardizing safety and prosperity for the future generations.
It is a well-established fact that cyberattacks can cause immense damage. According to a study by the University of Maryland, a cyberattack now happens every 39 seconds in the US alone, affecting one in three Americans every year. These attacks range from stealing individual identity to penetrating our national defense systems.
The Federal Government must prioritize and strategize to secure our national infrastructure. With the World Economic Forum ranking cybersecurity failure as a critical threat to the world, having a comprehensive national cybersecurity strategy has never been more important. It is a matter of vital importance that our cybersecurity must be proactive rather than reactive.
By developing a proactive cybersecurity strategy, where we bolster defenses before an attack, we can mitigate these threats. This includes undertaking extensive regular vulnerability assessments of our infrastructure and implementing timely patches, modernizing outdated systems, upskilling local talent, and integrating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning into our defenses.
We owe it to ourselves and our future generations to ensure we do not succumb to these cyber threats. Therefore, this petition calls for a concerted national effort backed by substantial federal resources to improve our country's cybersecurity. Stand with me in urging the federal government to develop, implement, and maintain a robust, proactive national cybersecurity strategy that can effectively safeguard our infrastructure.
