Audit JEA to stop waste and make utilities affordable again!
The Issue
Jacksonville Electric Authority has been in the media spotlight numerous times, most often after media investigations uncovered fraudulent activity carried out by JEA executives. This fraudulent activity was paid for by JEA rate increases, but the rates were never decreased after the fraud was discovered. Instead, the rates have continued to increase to the point that a lot of people on fixed incomes are having trouble paying their utilities. This would indicate that there is continued waste and fraud going on that the people of Jacksonville are footing the bill for. As Jacksonville's only utility supplier, there is no compettitive market to keep JEA in check and no other options for residents to turn to. We the People of Jacksonville, Florida request that Gov. Ron Desantis authorize an audit and investigation of JEA's executives and policies to ensure that the people of Duval County are not being price-gouged, that the results be made public, and that reparations (if applicable) take place in the form of rate reductions so that people can once again afford their utilities. Thank you.
