Dear Jeff Bezos, 

Congratulations on your big announcement. You have changed the lives of millions of people with Amazon, and we're sure you'll do the same with your new ventures. Particularly the Bezos Earth Fund. 

As you're a committed climate activist now, we think it would send a great message if one of your last initiatives at Amazon was our proposed Amazon Pick Up and Reuse Program. The perfect segue between your past and your future.

We know this would be a simple plan to execute, because several companies in the Bay Area have been picking up and reusing packaging materials for years, garnering tremendous customer loyalty. 

Good Eggs says “Return Good Eggs packing materials to your driver or set them out when you expect your next delivery, and we’ll reuse them. When the packing materials reach the end of life, we’ll recycle them!” Good Eggs has reused hundreds of thousands of good-as-new boxes and recycled or composted the rest. 

Straus Creamery directs its customers to return Straus dairy bottles to Whole Foods Markets, providing Amazon a front row seat to its success. Straus Creamery says that its reuse of Straus-branded bottles is an important part of its commitment to sustainability, keeping half a million pounds of containers out of landfill and city recycling systems every year. 

Marin County, CA, residents are among the most dedicated reusers in the world. Flattening nearly-new Amazon shipping boxes and plastic shipping envelopes, and setting them out for pick up and reuse would makes a Marinite sing with pleasure. Let’s do it! 

This could be another amazing part of your Amazon legacy, and we're prepared to do whatever it takes to get it underway. You just say the word.
