Hello everyone,

This evening, the Atlanta Public School Board of Education officially and unanimously approved Midtown High School as the new name for Henry W. Grady High School. This vote was in line with the recent vote by current Grady students and in line with the majority of public feedback on a new name for the school.

I'd like to thank the APS Board and the Grady naming committee for their service and leadership to the community and the school district.

I'd like to thank the 2,100+ people who signed and shared this petition, who reached out by phone and email to the APS board to share your thoughts, who gave public comments at Board meetings and did other things to ensure that community feedback was honored.  It was your engagement on this issue that ultimately led to Midtown High School being recommended and selected as the new name for Grady.

I urge everyone to remain engaged with the school.  Be part of the efforts to ensure that all students and stakeholders from all of the zoned neighborhoods and broader community feel welcomed, included and valued.  I urge all of the decades of Grady alumni to stay engaged and ensure that the legacy you created as students and leaders is built upon with the new name.

This renaming process clearly demonstrated the passion we have for the school and the community.  I ask that we all keep that same energy and continue supporting the school going forward.  Thank you!
