Rename Marconi Plaza & remove the statue of Guglielmo Marconi

The Issue

Guglielmo Marconi (1874 - 1937) was indisputably one of the foremost thinkers and inventors of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. However, he was a member of the Fascist Party and a close associate of Benito Mussolini. In 1930, Mussolini made Marconi a member of the Fascist Grand Council, which he was part of until his death. It is now also known that he enforced systematic blocking of Jews from the Royal Academy of Italy. Furthermore, there is no material connection between Marconi and Philadelphia.

While Guglielmo Marconi's innovations and achievements have fundamentally shaped our world, he is not worthy of the honor of having a public square named for him, nor having a statue there. The plaza should be renamed for someone with local significance and who was not inextricably linked to Fascism.
