Make a Women-Only Section at the Cal Poly Rec Center

The Issue

Womxn (and non-binary people) at Cal Poly are overwhelmingly feeling uncomfortable and over-sexualized on campus, including at the Rec Center. We believe that Cal Poly should designate certain sections of the gym that include free weights/machines to be womxn-only for certain hours of the week. For example, the top floor section of the Rec that faces Shake Smart and includes free weights, benches, the Smith machine, and more should be closed to men for at least one hour of each day. All-female gyms are extremely popular and provide an equitable experience, and we would like Cal Poly to instate policies that reflect those values within the resources that students are already paying for. We are asking that ASi takes this petition seriously, especially in light of recent campus assaults, and creates spaces for womxn on campus to take advantage of our beautiful recreation center safely and comfortably!
