Tribute for Stan
4 Apr 2021

Calling #QPR and all football fans, to write an email to lee.hoos@qpr.co.uk.

Copy in paulm@qpr.co.uk, with your views on the CEO's response to the Tribute for Stan petition, at the recent Fans Forum.

Plus your own, tribute for Stan proposal ideas, separate to any for other legends, initially.

Perhaps the CEO could choose what is feasible and the Just for Stan committee could be reformed? SHARES APPRECIATED!

Here is a transcript, of what the CEO, Lee Hoos, said at the Tuesday 23rd March 2021, Fans Forum:

'Yeh, I think Stan was a great player, I think it would be great to have something, not just for Stan.

Whether it's a hall of legends, whatever, but um, I think the energy, should be fan led. I think there needs to be, there was 1,000 people on the petition, really didn't say what. It would be helpful to know what you had in mind.

Go out and look and see what things could be done, because, bear in mind, right now, I still have a lot of staff on furlough. We're just trying, to keep things running right now.

So, it's all great, going out and getting 1,000 signatures, but there are another 363,000 fans on our database, and I'm sure they would be just as happy, to have something for Ian Gillyard, longest serving player. Managers, people like Gordon Jecko and people like that.

Something like a hall of legends, whether it's renaming the blue and white bar . . come up with workable ideas, but I think it has to be more than just, here's a petition, I love Stan, now go sort something out.

It's like, let's get some fan groups behind it and really run with this. Cos that's how we got the benefit match on. The first group of people, fans we worked with, didn't quite work out, because I don't think they fully appreciated the complexities of trying to get a game on.

So you got guys like Colin Hale, lifelong QPR fan and friend of Stan, came in, really took that thing forward. But please, guys, the one thing. I probably should have addressed this from the beginning. The one thing I have noticed about it is that it generates, almost like civil war within the club.

About, 'what about this player, what about Dave (Thomas), he should be getting something as well. You know, it should be something that unifies and not divides, is what I'm saying.

But, certainly something that encompasses club legends, you know and let's face it, no one is more legendary than Stan. That would be quite appropriate to try and take forward, but let's work on ideas, as opposed to just saying, 'here's 1,000 people who think you ought to do something, now go do it.'

Thank you for this brilliant response to the CEO, already:

'Dear Lee,

I am writing as a football fan of many years, following Leeds United, from the late 60's to the present day.

I am amazed that there is no permanent tribute at Queens Park Rangers FC, to the man who was undoubtedly, your greatest ever player and a wonderful character too, Stan the Man! Mr Stanley Bowles.

We are lucky at Elland Road, that a number of our players and managers, have been honoured with naming of stands and statues, for King Billy, Billy Bremner and Don Revie. We also now have the Norman Hunter stand, the Jack Charlton stand, the John Charles stand and the Don Revie stand.

I would ask that you seriously consider the request for a permanent tribute to Stan Bowles and do something whilst he is still alive, so that it honours him and his family have that memory before his passing.

He was undoubtedly one of football's great entertainers and players of the 1970's and all the football family have great memories of him.

Yes, you have other legends I am sure you may feel need including, but to the wider football world, if you say QPR, then one name comes to their lips. Stan 'the man' Bowles.

Do something for your other managers and players, but Stan should be the first, in my opinion.

We bought a calendar on our visit to Loftus Road, in January 2020 and started 'a picture with Stan', as a bit of fun.
Once fans are back in the ground, we will be doing a fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research, to raise money for the charity for Stan, plus other footballers of that era, who suffered or are suffering from it.

Jeff Astle, Jack Charlton, Gordon McQueen, Frank Worthington, Nobby Stiles and all the everyday people this illness touches.

We had a slot in the Leeds v Brighton home programme and our fundraiser will continue our theme of 'a picture with Stan'!! We are just waiting for the return of fans in and around the stadiums.

I hope you can do something quickly to honour Stan Bowles.

Yours Faithfully
Dave Rowson
Leeds United Supporters Club & Season ticket holder.
