Update:

Iranians in Iran and in diaspora are questioning UNICEF and request an immediate explanation for UNICEF IRAN’s inaction after reportedly more than 55 children have been killed by regime forces since September 2022 (in less than 3 months as of November 2022). UNICEF must provide a comprehensive report of UNICEF IRAN’s actions taken in the last couple of months. The goal of this petition is to get a comprehensive image of actions UNICEF IRAN has taken (or lack of) based on their duties. This petition is directed at UNICEF, and through Change.org will be emailed to the Ethics team at UNICEF. 

UNICEF is the UN organization mandated to protect the rights of every child, everywhere, especially the most disadvantaged, and is the only organization specifically named in the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a source of expert assistance and advice.  

Based on information from inside Iran, more than 55 children have been killed reportedly by the Islamic Republic of Iran security forces since the start of the protests for #MahsaAmini and « Women, Life, Freedom ». UNICEF needs to take action. 

The Iranian envoy to UNICEF, actress Mahtab Keramati, resigned to protest a lack of action from UNICEF. 

UNICEF World Children's Day is on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022. UNICEF Iran representative, Dr. Robin Nandy, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Iran, Mr. Stefan Priesner, must provide an explanation about:

1. Actions taken to protect the rights of children in Iran during the current situation
2. Actions taken to promote and support the Convention on the Rights of the Child during the current situation in Iran (https://www.unicef.org/child-rights-convention/convention-text-childrens-version) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, 
3. Actions taken to ensure that voices that too often go unheard are reflected in the information presented to the Committee. For example, by facilitating wide-reaching consultations at all levels of society, submitting written reports on the situation of women and children, and encouraging non-governmental organizations to submit their own reports to the Committee as a supplement to government reports

بر اساس اخبار داخل ایران، از زمان شروع تظاهرات مهساامینی و «زن، زندگی، آزادی»، بیش از۵۵  کودک توسط نیروهای امنیتی جمهوری اسلامی ایران کشته شده‌اند. یونیسف باید اقدام کند. مهتاب کرامتی، نماینده ایران در یونیسف در اعتراض به عدم اقدام یونیسف از سمت خود استعفا داد. روز جهانی کودک یونیسف در روز یکشنبه 20 نوامبر 2022 است. نماینده یونیسف در ایران، دکتر رابین نندی، و هماهنگ کننده مقیم سازمان ملل در ایران، آقای استفان پریزنر، باید توضیحاتی بدهند در مورد:

-اقدامات انجام شده برای حمایت از حقوق کودکان در ایران در شرایط کنونی

-اقدامات انجام شده برای ترویج و حمایت از کنوانسیون حقوق کودک در شرایط کنونی ایران

-اقدامات انجام شده برای اطمینان از اینکه صداهایی که اغلب شنیده نمی شوند به کمیته منعکس شوند. به عنوان مثال، با تسهیل مشاوره و نظرسنجی گسترده در همه سطوح جامعه، ارائه گزارش‌های مکتوب در مورد وضعیت زنان و کودکان و تشویق سازمان‌های غیردولتی برای ارائه گزارش‌های خود به کمیته به عنوان مکمل گزارش‌های دولتی.
