This week Marie Claire UK officially backed our campaign — calling for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) to continue until age 18. This is a major step forward for our movement.
In a powerful new article by journalist Mischa Anouk Smith, Marie Claire reports on Everyone’s Invited’s findings about rape culture in primary schools and gaps in earlier RSE— and endorses our campaign to close the serious gap in RSE provision for 16- to 18-year-olds.
This support matters. Parliament’s Women and Equalities Select Committee found that one child is raped in school every school day. Ofsted’s 2021 report also showed that sexual abuse, harassment, and online exploitation have become normalised for many children and teenagers.
Rape culture — where sexual violence is excused or trivialised — is present in every corner of society, including our classrooms.
We’re grateful to Marie Claire for using their platform to spotlight this crisis and gaps across RSE and to back this petitions call for change. Their support helps bring national attention to serious issues that have been ignored for too long.
