The Metro Board will be making their FINAL DECISION-THIS THURSDAY-whether to go ahead with plans to destroy the Lawndale railroad green strip right-of-way (aka ROW) to install two electrified light rail tracks alongside the heavy freight track!
If we don’t speak up now, METRO will immediately begin demolishing hundreds of big trees, then pulling up old train tracks and rebuilding it closer to family homes. The construction will expose the many nearby residents (windows, back doors and play yards only 10 to 20 feet from construction) to dangerous toxic chemicals and loud noise for years!
But, as a final Hail Mary, a new amendment has been written which could save our community! Supervisor Mitchell introduced a motion to CHOOSE THE Hawthorne BLVD Option, instead of the ROW! But it requires you to let the Metro board know that you want them to vote NO to to certify the ROW.
Come out and tell them “NO TO ITEM 11; DO NOT USE THE ROW!” The Metro Board needs to hear that you support using Hawthorne Boulevard, because you support smart transit that does not hurt communities. The SouthBay can have trains *AND* trees if the Metro K-line extension is elevated above Hawthorne Blvd, instead of on the ROW, squeezed in between houses!
