Ask Governor Hobbs to Veto SB1300/HB2667 to Keep Concealed Weapons Off Campus
The Issue
We are asking Arizona Governor, Katie Hobbs to veto the bill SB1300/HB2667 that would prevent Colleges and Universities in Arizona from prohibiting concealed weapons on campus. This bill passed in the Arizona Senate on March 2, 2023 and it will be on the Governor's desk next week (week of March 13). Once the bills hit her desk, she has five days to veto.
The data is clear, more guns on campus means more shootings on campus. This bill will increase the number of gun homicides and suicides on Arizona college campuses. The firearm suicide rate for young people has increased by 42 percent in the past decade, and we know that access to firearms increases the risk of suicide by three fold.
We must act now and let Governor Hobbs know that we oppose this bill and need her to veto.
