Representation of Kosovo’s Borders on Google Maps

Google Maps currently displays the borders of Kosovo with dashed or disputed boundary lines. This visual representation suggests that Kosovo’s sovereignty is uncertain or unresolved, which many citizens and supporters believe does not reflect the political reality recognized by over 100 countries worldwide.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and has since established its own democratic institutions, government, and international partnerships. Many countries, including the United States and the majority of members of the European Union, recognize Kosovo as an independent state.

Digital maps play a powerful role in shaping global understanding of geography and political boundaries. When Kosovo’s borders are displayed as disputed, it can misinform users, undermine the country’s sovereignty, and negatively affect how Kosovo is perceived internationally.

We believe that global platforms like Google have a responsibility to represent Kosovo in a fair and accurate way that reflects the recognition it has received and the reality on the ground.

This petition calls on Google to review how Kosovo is displayed on Google Maps and to present its borders the same way as other independent countries.
