Protect Farm to School TODAY!

The Issue

Oregon's Farm to School Program is facing proposed budget cuts of $7.8 million dollars, most of which would go to our schools to purchase healthy, locally grown food from local producers.

All spring and summer, since COVID-19 hit, schools have been feeding our communities (not just students but also families), and they are counting on this reimbursement of their local purchases to make ends meet.

This funding is more important than ever in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthy food is what our children need now and support for the bedrock of our economy is what our communities need.

These funds are critical to our economy.  Local farmers have lost other markets and are in need of these sales to schools.

Oregon’s 770 school gardens are a key to social distancing in schools in the fall.   Educators can be with students socially distanced in the garden, while teachers are with other students in the classroom.

In the Rogue Valley, Rogue Valley Farm to School used the relationships built via our farm to school work to leverage nearly a million dollars in federal funding to provide food for our community, passing out 2,000 FREE boxes of organic fruits and veggies via schools every week. Feeding more than 8,000 people EVERY WEEK.

Schools need Farm to School garden programs this fall. We provide SAFE, OUTDOOR education. Schools are relying on us to help provide on-campus education so they can open.

The proposed budget cuts e threaten the viability of this critical program.

Please do all you can to protect funding for the Farm to School Program
