I lost my virginity to my rapist. In reflection, it was a toxic relationship that went from sexual harassment to sexual assaults to multiple rapes by him. Because I was just one of his "sidepieces" and my family preferred for me to "move on in silence"- I did so for almost 30 years. Within that thirty years, I spent the first ten years in terror hiding behind name changes. My physical body still to this day remains spasmic from the multiple, compounding violent acts inflicted by my rapist/kidnapper. Every physically intimate encounter after the rape resulted in spasmic challenges.  My depression grew deeper and deeper over the decades. I recently found out that my rape kit, case files, and my story had been essentially tossed in the trash by North Carolina and reduced to two sentences:  My rapist was arrested and his  charges were dismissed. Nothing about him being arrested at the hospital that I was in. Nothing about him being forced to attend counseling which I probably was lied to about. All the trauma that I had been through was erased by Asheville. No victim compensation. My civil lawsuit rights are out of the statute of limitations so the only thing left is criminal prosecution which have no statute of limitations. So as of August 2020, I am now pursuing this remedy to the fullest extent.
