We, the signatories of this petition, call for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to be safe and responsible. Although we know that AI brings with it a variety of benefits, we also believe that the issue of security is of great importance. We call for urgent action to keep AI development in line with ethical principles and basic human values.

This means the private and public sector coming together to create solutions that allow for innovation to thrive while ensuring safeguards.

It is undeniable that AI research has the potential to improve our lives in many ways, from medical advances to solving global challenges. However, there is also a risk that uncontrolled and unethical AI development can have serious consequences for our societies and the planet.

Therefore, we call for:

1. The creation of clear ethical guidelines for AI development that promote respect for human rights, citizen privacy and social justice.
2. The creation of a binding, national and international regulatory framework for AI developers and companies that ensures AI systems are transparent, fair and non-discriminatory.
3. The promotion of research and collaboration on AI safety, fairness and accountability to minimise potential negative impacts of AI systems.

We call on policymakers and technology companies to recognize the urgency of this issue and work together towards responsible AI development. Time is running out and we must act now to ensure a safe and people-friendly future for all.
