The Yorktown PTA will host a High School Capacity Town Hall in the YHS cafeteria from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25. While this meeting is not sponsored by APS, School Board members Barbara Kanninen and Reid Goldstein will attend. The Board is on the verge of making a decision about where to locate the 1,300 seats that will be funded by the bond that was approved by voters in November. We hope you have been following APS's recent community meetings and feedback opportunities on high school options! Whether or not you have, please consider attending THIS meeting and expressing support for a 4th Comprehensive High School -- make your voice heard! Placing the seats on the Kenmore Middle School campus (the 2nd largest piece of property owned by APS) is the only option the Board is considering that would place high school seats on a campus that could ALSO accommodate extracurricular activities for those students. It is also the only option that would likely result in establishing a 4th Comprehensive High School Arlington within the next decade, which is something Arlington will NEED if even the most conservative of population growth predictions hold up. Moving the Middle School will also be key to allow sufficient room for a full sized high school and to accommodate traffic, yet this does not seem to be the school board's current plan. Please SHARE this information widely (friends, other PTAs, neighborhood associations, etc.), and please do attend the meeting at Yorktown on Tuesday night! Thank you for your support for our kids and our schools!
