Petition updateEnd the Pig/Sheep Race2017
CIARA FITZGERALDArklow, Ireland
Jan 19, 2017
Hi all, Another year ahead of us, and as far as I know the race is still going to be a fixture for this year. The festival as of today, doesn't have an up and running website, it's probably being revamped for this year at the moment. They still have their FB page, so if you would like to comment on it or send them a message, explaining your concerns and distaste for the race please do, they are always saying they would like idea's, so share the idea that the race is just a bad one! I have one or two plans of action for this year, and I won't reveal them just yet. I won't give up, this race needs to be stopped. Actually as a matter of interest, last November in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow, a planned pig race was cancelled due to people's concern about it. The committee were approached and simply cancelled it, as they saw how cruel it was. Not all of the committee were in agreement, but those people who wanted the race, were open-minded enough to see that the majority didn't want to expose pigs to the frightening ordeal, of racing in public amongst loud crowds. I was very hopeful when I heard this news, hopeful in the fact that not all Irish festivals are fixated in 'tradition' and animal cruelty. If Newtownmountkennedy (20 or so minutes away from Arklow) can cancel their pig race, surely the Arklow Seabreeze Festival can too.... Thank you for your continued support 3003 signatures so far.....Here's the link to their FB page..... https://www.facebook.com/Arklow-Seabreeze-Festival-224167300956646/
