Sent one last email to Seabreeze committee to cancel pig race. I suggested 2 alternative events, a go-cart race (kids, adults, groups, staff from businesses could build a cart in their respective categories and people can bet on who wins) and also a Highland Games type event, been as most Pipe Band competitions the world over have these games as part of their event, I thought it would make sense and the festival have the Pipe Band competition just up the street at the same time the pig race is staged.. Again people can bet on the winner. Both events are great fun, crowds will love it, and a heck of a lot more potential for revenue than terrifying 5 pigs on the main street! My petition has 2,787 signatures thus far. I’ve also included a testimonial from an expert in the US who runs a pig sanctuary, who fully supports the notion that racing pigs is indeed very stressful and cruel and physically strenuous on them. I've done my best, I sincerely hope the committee have minds open enough to think of other ways to attract crowds than using animals for entertainment. Everything crossed!
