The development it seems, is going ahead this weekend with the Council completely ignoring the rights and the wishes of their residents. This is what happens when big organisations such as the Council are desperate to appease property developers and disregard the people they are supposed to represent. Argyll & Bute Council will now use this access as a precedent to giving more land to the property developers of the old Hermitage Academy site and have even more access roads coming on to our small street. The Council obviously think that we are too ignorant to realise all this about their underhand scheme. The people responsible for this decision, and that includes our local Councillors who have been of no assistance whatsoever, have made no efforts to resolve this matter. Instead, what we have experienced is a Corporate arrogance that they know what's best for us. This attitude I can assure them, is highly insulting to the intelligence of the people affected. This is not local democracy, this is land grabbing and it is our opinion, that they are doing this by abusing the powers they are granted. They have achieved this development by secrecy and by using powers of the Council in a manner that they were not intended to be used. If there are more than 10 objections to a development there has to be a further investigation. There were more than 10 and there was no further investigation. Instead, there was a meeting at Lochgilphead where we could attend but not speak...so how's that for a democratic process...mandatory gagging of public opinion in the Council Chambers?? Argyll & Bute Council have treated the residents objecting to this with nothing short of contempt. Even with press releases and petitions on Facebook, unanswered Freedom of Information requests etc, not one Council representative has contacted any of the residents to discuss their concerns. Then again, from past performance records of this Council, this is only what one can expect from A&B Council.
