Background The campaign to save King’s Cross pond achieved an amazing amount of support in a short time, and it showed that there is a demand for open water swimming in an urban area. It also showed that there are lots of ideas on how this could be funded, promoted and run. Camden Council, while rejecting our request to help save King’s Cross pond, did make positive noises about supporting a future request for a similar pond elsewhere in the borough in future. A report is being prepared on the lessons from building the King’s Cross pond. There are already specific campaigns to set up freshwater ponds and lidos in London and elsewhere around the country. We know of two other projects for natural water pools already underway – Thames Baths (http://thamesbaths.com/); and Peckham lido (https://www.dezeen.com/2016/05/13/studio-octopi-crowdfunding-campaign-rebuild-lido-natural-swimming-pool-london-peckham/) And this Facebook group is relevant: Community Pools and Lidos https://www.facebook.com/groups/1651883245094896/ This new group can build on the work done by these other groups, learn from the King’s Cross pond experience, work with Camden contacts, and see if we can find a way that a new pond can be established. New email Google Group Initially this will be a Google Group, in which members can email each other with ideas, plans etc. It will aim to bring together everyone who is interested in trying to set up a new freshwater swimming pond, in Camden or elsewhere in London.
