Bonjour en particulier aux béninois.es,

Aujourd'hui j'étais profondément triste et en colère lorsque j'ai vu cette image passer sur Facebook. Je ne pouvais pas simplement ignorer et continuer comme ça.

Le contexte actuel de questionnement sur les enjeux de discriminations et d'oppressions raciales m'ouvrent davantage les yeux sur ce qui doit changer et doit changer tout de suite dans nos pays, en particulier au Bénin où cette image a été prise à l'Église Catholique Saint Jean Baptiste (corrigez-moi si je me trompe).

Cette statue montre un homme blanc avec son pied en train d'étrangler un homme noir aux cheveux crépus, une épée à la main. C'est aussi simple que ça, qu'on soit religieux ou pas!

C'est symboliquement un autre Derek Chauvin en train d'étouffer un autre George Floyd. 

Le diable n'a pas une couleur de peau particulière avec des cheveux crépus. S'il en a une, ce n'est certainement pas le merveilleux noir de ma peau.

Demandons l'abolissement de cet esclavage mental, de cette oppression flagrante. À l'instar des statues racistes et oppressives qui tombent partout dans le monde (USA, Ghana, Royaume Uni...), CETTE STATUE ET TOUTES LES AUTRES SIMILAIRES DOIVENT TOMBER MAINTENANT!!!

Hello everyone interested in racial justice,

Hello especially to my fellow Beninese,

Today I got deeply sad and angry when I saw this image on Facebook. I couldn't just ignore and go on like that.

The current context of questioning on the issues of racial discrimination and oppression opens my eyes more to what must change and must change immediately in our countries, particularly in Benin where this image was taken at the Saint Jean Baptiste Catholic Church (correct me if I'm wrong).

This statue shows a white man with his foot strangling a black man with curly African hair, a sword in his hand. It's that simple, whether you are religious or not!

It is symbolically another Derek Chauvin choking another George Floyd.

The devil does not have a particular skin colour with curly African hair. If it has one, it is certainly not the wonderful black of my skin.

Let us demand the abolition of this mental slavery, of this blatant oppression. Like the racist and oppressive statues that are currently falling everywhere in the world (USA, Ghana, United Kingdom ...), THIS STATUE AND ALL SIMILAR STATUES MUST FALL NOW !!!
