APVMA must review the use of 1080 in Australia without delay. At the time of the 2008 Review APVMA claimed the deaths of domestic or companion animals was very limited. APVMA claimed there had only been reports of a hundred or so.
Eleven years later, we are able to state that in fact there are many thousands of companion animals that die each year across Australia from 1080 poisoning, baits or secondary poisoning from carcasses.
Generally this has been caused by negligent baiting, lack of adherence to use requirements and failure to remove poisoned carcass. 1080 is far too toxic to be placed in the hands of the general public. THIS MUST STOP.
We demand APVMA review the use of 1080 and listen to the public who do NOT want a Schedule 7 Poison used in our environment. Banned by EPA in America, we must follow suit and Ban 1080 in Australia.
