Mandatory twice weekly covid testing begins this week for student athletes/extracurriculars. This is the info forwarded from Midtown High Athletic Director Patrick Johnson:
"Good afternoon coaches, APS is requiring that all students in the district undergo surveillance testing twice per week in order to participate in athletics. Please send out the information below to your teams ASAP and encourage them to participate in testing at school on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning next week. I will be in charge of checking the list of students tested vs. our rosters and will let you know if there are individuals not in compliance. I know this is a big ask for all of us, so do your best to push this message out to your teams and please give me a call if you have any questions. Thank you!

Dear Parents & Guardians -
Atlanta Public Schools is requiring all students participating in athletics and extra-curricular activities to participate in surveillance testing twice a week going forward.
The first step is to make sure you have consented for your child to participate in the APS surveillance testing program at the following linkhttps://studentapp.viralsolutionsga.com/consent
Secondly, it is crucial that you discuss with your student that the expectation is for them to test every Tuesday and Friday morning on campus at Midtown High School in order to participate in practices or games. Students can test as early as 8:15 AM in the cafeteria and throughout first period.
This program does not apply to students in after-school arts activities that are related to coursework in an enrolled class, like an evening band concert. It does, however, apply to students in an extracurricular activity not associated with an enrolled class, like an after-school drama club. Additionally, the protocol applies to students at all grade levels.
Please be advised that students wanting to participate in athletics or other extracurricular activities will not be allowed to do so if they have not consented to surveillance testing or participated in the most recent testing opportunity.State law does allow local school districts to impose additional requirements for participation in extracurricular activities, including safety requirements (https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/67554"
