On April 22 the Fairfax City Council with no discussion passed a resolution that "the city terminates all actions with respect to the Country Club Hills Connector Trail". This same City Council was elected to remedy the complaints that the previous councils had not been open in its actions and had not offered adequate opportunities for public input in the decision making process. Ironically, the resolution was passed without the opportunity for public input. Moreover, the public was not notified that the action was contemplated, because it was not posted on the meeting agenda that is circulated prior to meetings. Finally, the usual agenda item allowing the public to speak prior to the formal agenda was eliminated to quote a staff member "because the council wanted it that way".
The Country Club Hills Connector Trail would have linked two of the largest neighborhoods in Fairfax City by a short 650 foot trail. Funding of $5.1M had already been awarded after application by the city's transportation department. This trail had also been endorsed by the city's parks and recreation department.
At the same meeting another trail, the Pickett Connector Trail was put on hold. A more detailed discussion of the April 22 meeting was reported in the Fairfax Connection. Trails
On May 13 city council will direct its view once again on the George Snyder Trail. To save this trail from the council's trail axe, please circulate this petition and more importantly let city council know your feelings via email at MayorandCouncil@fairfaxva.gov
