The Issue

There is a proposal to open a branch of the world-famous Blue Note jazz club chain in London. However, the proposal is facing resistance from the Metropolitan Police who are opposed to the club's application to have a late license to remain open until 1AM.

London's nightlife and live music scenes have been badly impacted by Covid and the cost of living crisis. A new, high profile jazz club in the heart of Soho would be a boon to the city's cultural landscape.

Jazz clubs do not cause crime. This is a petition to ask Westminster City Council to grant the late license for the Blue Note London and to support live music in the capital.

There are Blue Note clubs in ten cities around the world, from New York to Shanghai, Tokyo and Rio. It would be a sad indictment for the city and its reputation if London is denied a Blue Note Club.

UPDATE:

I contacted Westminster City Council to let them know about the support for the club and was told that the license application had been granted, so I closed the petition.

This was not quite accurate. The application granted by Westminster City Council is not what the club needs to be viable.

The council granted opening until 11.30PM from Monday to Thursday;
until 12 on Friday and Saturday; and until 10.30PM on Sundays.

By comparison, Ronnie Scott's has a license until 3AM.
