Approve life-extending drug Enhertu on the NHS for GI cancers
The Issue
Every day, our brother, along with many others, bravely battles against stage 4 oesophageal cancer. This isn't just any fight; it's against an incredibly aggressive and devastating disease known for its historically low survival rates. Watching him navigate through this challenging journey, holding onto every precious moment, not just for himself but for all of us who love him dearly, is heart-wrenching.
There is hope, though, for patients whose tumours test positive for the HER2 protein. A targeted, life-extending drug called Enhertu offers a beacon of hope amidst the gloom. Enhertu is not just another treatment; it represents precious time, a chance to create more memories, more smiles, and more moments that cancer seeks to rob from us.
While Enhertu has demonstrated remarkable efficacy, prolonging lives and offering improved quality of life, its availability through the NHS is still not a reality for those fighting HER2-positive upper gastrointestinal cancers in the UK. The UK healthcare system, one that prides itself on its commitment to health and wellbeing, must recognise the urgent need for providing access to this drug.
Enhertu has been approved in other countries, showing robust clinical trial results that signify hope for many patients and families. Evidence indicates that this drug not only extends lives but also improves living standards, allowing patients to spend valuable time with their families with fewer hospital visits and reduced chemotherapy side effects.
The time has come for the NHS to take an affirmative action, ensuring that such treatments are within reach for all HER2-positive cancer patients. By approving Enhertu, we can grant countless families more time with their loved ones, easing the emotional and financial burdens associated with ongoing cancer treatment.
We urge decision-makers within the NHS and relevant stakeholders in the UK health system to prioritise and facilitate the approval and availability of Enhertu without further delays. Let us stand together to advocate for those who deserve more time, more hope, and more life.
Please sign this petition. Let’s make a difference for our brother and countless others whose lives hang in the balance and who deserve the fighting chance Enhertu offers.
