Approve $1.8M for Miracle League Field & Playground in South Fulton

Approve $1.8M for Miracle League Field & Playground in South Fulton
The Issue
The City of South Fulton has been presented with a $1.8 million proposal to build an adaptive and inclusive Miracle League baseball field, alongside a sensory playground. playground. The anticipated cost of the field and playground is approx. $2.5M.We urge the city council to see the value this project brings and approve the funding.
We cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt our residents with disabilities. However, what we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and the physical and social benefits that come from facilities like this proposed baseball field and playground.
The Miracle League of South Fulton (www.mlosf.com), a non-profit organization, was founded in 2004 by Welcome All Park Multipurpose Facility employees. The purpose was, and is, to address the lack of recreational opportunities for our special needs population. The disabilities of our players range from Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and Down's Syndrome to Autism Spectrum Disorders, the vast majority of which have never played baseball or any other team sport.
What is different about these Miracle League fields? These fields remove barriers present in conventional fields, fostering inclusion, building self-esteem, and allowing everyone a chance to experience the joy of America's pastime by eliminating injuries and accommodating mobility devices. Unlike traditional grass and dirt fields, Miracle League fields have a custom-designed, rubberized turf surface which are flat without barriers and wheel-chair accessible. https://youtu.be/Igv1dGYZ0w4?si=-DbBF3NNvK_Dx6_m . Currently, all games are played inside a City of South Fulton gymnasium. It is time for our players to play baseball on a real, outside field.
Again, we urge the city council to approve the funding for this project
