Appeal for support to build a statue of Swami Vivekananda in Reading

Appeal for support to build a statue of Swami Vivekananda in Reading
The Issue
Swami Vivekananda, an influential spiritual leader who has touched countless lives worldwide. His universal teachings on interfaith awareness and selfless service to mankind have transcended borders and continue to inspire millions around the globe.
Why in Reading ?
Swami Vivekananda was invited by many influential and famous people of England in the late 19th century. Out of his three UK visits, Swami Vivekananda lived in Mr E.T. Sturdy’s Caversham house in Reading twice. First time from 10 September 1895 for four months and again from 15th April 1896 for eight long months.
Reading is home to a diverse population that includes many who follow or are influenced by Swami Vivekananda's teachings. Erecting a statue in his honour would not only be an acknowledgement of his global impact but also serve as an inspiration for local community.
Project Objectives:
• To install a full figure sculpture at a public place in Reading, e.g. Forbury Gardens or Caversham
• To organize a suitable fund raising musical programme on the occasion of the unveiling of the statue
Please join BCS Reading in urging the Reading Borough Council to recognize this influential figure by erecting a statue in his honour. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TODAY.
