Appeal for Justice for Father Piotr Glas

Appeal for Justice for Father Piotr Glas
The Issue
To His Excellency, Bishop Philip,
With respect and deep concern, we address Your Excellency as members of the Church, troubled by justice, truth, and the unity of the faithful, considering the matter involving Father Piotr.
We agree that all allegations must be taken seriously and with compassion towards those who bring them forward. However, we also remind that every person, including clergy, is entitled to a fair process, defence, and the presumption of innocence until a final judgment is made.
It is with sadness that we have observed that Your Excellency's statement in the media, offering apologies to the alleged victims, has been perceived by many faithful as a premature judgment. Issuing such a communication before the conclusion of the trial and the potential appeals raises legitimate concerns about impartiality and justice.
The words and decisions of a bishop have a profound impact on the lives of the faithful and the entire Church. We expect the Shepherd to speak with prudence, discernment, and faithfulness to the Gospel—even in the face of difficult and emotional situations.
Therefore, we request that no steps be taken to remove Father Piotr from his priestly office or restrict his ministry before the legal process has been fully completed and a final verdict rendered. Any premature action would not only be unjust but also harmful to the unity of the Church and the trust of the faithful.
We firmly call upon Your Excellency to act with calm discernment, fidelity to the truth, and pastoral care, not yielding to public pressure or emotional demands.
We entrust this matter to Your Excellency’s prayerful consideration and pastoral wisdom, asking the Holy Spirit to grant light, justice, peace, and healing to all involved.
