In the latest update, the evil couple who scalded their biological son with hot water on many occasions and even confined him to a cage meant for an animal had been sentenced to 27 years imprisonment. With the father receiving additional caning and the mother receiving one additional year of imprisonment in lieu of caning.

Even though the punishment cannot be enough to bring the poor child back to life, 27 years of imprisonment will rob the parents of their healthy years and make them suffer a fate worse than death,

Compared to the Annie Ee case (fatal abuse of an intellectual adult) in which punishment we felt was grossly inadequate, the prosecution handling this child abuse case had initially pushed for murder charges which carries the death penalty but the pair was subsequently acquitted of murder charges.

The prosecution later pushed for life imprisonment and the punishment of 27 years was meted out after the Justice handling the case considered the facts and precedents of the present case.

According to the Straits Times article:

"The prosecution has since filed an appeal against the murder acquittal."

Although we layman will never be able to understand the legal system and proceedings inside a case, only a legal system and prosecution who continues to seek punishment that can reflect the gravity of the crime is one that will retain our faith in the legal system.
