Hello all, just wanted to add this post to clarify what this petition entails. This petition solely focuses on banning plastic bags that come from the university. These would include bags from the bookstore, dining halls, and markets. A student would still be able to use their own plastic bags and there will be no punishment if a student uses one. The idea is that if the convince of using a plastic bag (say in the market) is taken away, then students would be more likely to use an alternative (hemp/reusable bags, etc). My goal is to get the university to supply every student with a reusable bag per semester, similarly to how they have done with the masks. I am apart of SGA; me and another senator are working on that plans on banning the university's usage of plastic bags; the more signatures this petition receives our bill will have more credibility.
